Well Visit Preparation

For the newborn appointment, please bring completed new patient paperwork. Please be prepared to answer the following questions:

How is your baby feeding?
How many wet and stool diapers is your baby having?
How are parents moods? Any concerns for depression?

Vaccines Typically Administered

No vaccines are given at the newborn or 2 week visits. We will give you information at your visit regarding vaccines you will be making decisions about at your baby’s 2 month visit.

At each well visit, you will receive a Your Wellness Guide, which provides information that we may not have time to discuss at your visit. Even with the handout, there is still more information we cannot fit! We are believers in Knowledge is Power, so we share as many resources with you as possible!!!

Bedsharing and Co-sleeping safely: We understand and respect that many parents choose to routinely bed share for a variety of reasons, including facilitation of breastfeeding, cultural preferences, and the belief that it is better and safer for their infant. There are increased risk of sleep-related infant death with bedsharing compared to the infant sleeping close by the bedside in a crib or bassinet. While we do not recommend bedsharing, if you choose to bedshare here are some guidelines to reduce risks of infant death. This article discusses hazardous risk factors and circumstances during bedsharing/cosleeping.
Developmental Development and Tips that didn’t fit on our YWG:
- Skin to skin contact (with mom and dad) has been shown to be beneficial for all babies and improves bonding.
- Tummy time is essential for your baby’s development. While awake and supervised, do tummy time as often as possible!
- If you are offered advice by family and friends that you do not agree with, thank the person (knowing they are trying to support you) and change the subject. If we offer advice that you do not agree with, please discuss it with us!
- Routines help your baby feel safe and cared for. Begin creating daily routines or bathing, feeding, sleeping, and playing.
