Well Visit – 15-18 years
Well Visit Preparation
Our goal for visits during this age range is to allow the adolescent to become more independent in their health visits. Please encourage your teen to review this information. Please also note that teens this age will be offered time with their provider independently. Anything that the teen shares in the room is confidential and can only be shared with the parent with the permission of the teen or if the teen is at risk of self-harm (or harming others).
Vaccines Typically Administered and Procedures
We will discuss the following vaccines if you have not had these vaccines.
- Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, acellular Pertussis).
- Meningococcal Vaccine
- Human Papillomavirus Vaccine
We do a urine screen every year at this age. This test is in part a screen for type 1 diabetes, as well as other issues. Drink well the days prior to the visit to reduce “false positives” and the need to repeat the urine.
We do a hemoglobin via finger prick every 2 years whenever possible. This helps us screen for anemia, including iron deficiency anemia.
